Pet-proof Japanese shoji

A calmer home.
Claws and all.

Real shoji paper, laminated on both sides to shrug off claws, spills and sunlight, without losing its warm, quiet glow.

Warm afternoon light through a Japanese shoji screen with a ginger cat resting beside it

We reimagined the centuries-old shoji screen for homes with cats, kids, and actual life.

Ordinary shoji paper shredded by a cat on the left, intact pet-proof shoji paper on the right

Same soft light. Minus the shredding.

On the left, ordinary rice paper after one determined cat. On the right, Shoji Haus. The look is identical. What happens on day two is not.

The material

Washi, sealed for real life.

We take genuine Japanese shoji paper and seal it inside a fine PET film on both sides. It stays soft to the eye and tough to the touch.

01

Laminated both sides

Claws and pokes slide off. Up to five times the tear strength of ordinary shoji paper.

02

Wipes clean

Paw prints, dust and spills come off with a damp cloth. No re-papering every season.

03

Keeps the glow

The translucent finish holds shoji's warm, diffused light. It reads as real washi across the room.

04

Blocks UV

Softens harsh sun and helps protect your floors and furniture from fading.

For screens, sliding doors, windows and dividers.

One warm, quiet material for every soft-lit corner of the home. Sized to re-cover most standard panels.

Ordinary paper, and ours.

What pet owners are already saying

"We had two cats and four rice-paper shoji screens for 20 years. They shredded them to bits, despite having clawing alternatives everywhere."

A cat owner, on Reddit

"We got some of that claw-proof screen to repair the one on our back door. It had been shredded by a stray cat."

Questions, answered

Does it still let light through?
Yes. The lamination is translucent and keeps the soft, warm glow of real shoji paper. It reads as traditional washi from across the room.
Can you wipe it clean?
Yes. A damp cloth removes paw prints, dust and spills from the sealed surface, unlike fragile rice paper.
Is it hard to install?
No. Cut it with scissors and apply with shoji glue or double-sided tape. Every roll comes with an illustrated, step-by-step guide.
Is it really pet and kid safe?
The sealed PET surface resists cat claws and pokes and wipes clean of little fingerprints. No shoji paper is fully claw-proof against a truly determined cat, but this dramatically reduces damage and makes cleanup easy.
